Bathing Beaches/Public Swimming Pools

The Essex Health Department routinely obtains water samples from the Viney Brook Swimming Beach to monitor water quality. The Beach is sampled weekly during the summer season and may be closed occasionally due to poor water quality and/or heavy rainfall.

The Essex Health Department is responsible for conducting inspections of public swimming pools annually. The inspector performs visual inspection of pool water clarity, layout and pool equipment. The inspection also includes chemical analysis of chlorine or bromine levels, pH level, and of bacterial counts in the water.
