Carol Lord Receives
the Roberrt C. Periello Award
-Maureen Whelan, Scholarship Committee Chair

The Roberrt C. Periello Award recognizes the professional achievements made by a registered sanitarian and local Yankee Conference affiliate (CEHA) member. This most prestigious award is given annually by the Yankee Conference Board of Directors to an individual who first must be chosen by the CEHA Board of Directors. This is a highly respected honor and is presented to a most outstanding member for their contributions to CEHA, the Yankee Conference and environmental health. The 2007 Periello Award recipient is Carol Lord from the Essex Health Department and Co-Chair of the CEHA Subsurface Sewage Disposal Systems Committee.

CEHA would like to acknowledge Carol for all of her efforts in bringing attention to issues that we will soon be facing in implementing advanced technology (AT) for on-site subsurface systems around the state. Carol has done a tremendous amount of work setting up stakeholders meetings to focus in proactive solutions to make implementation of “small” AT smooth and effective. CEHA has provided, through Carol’s efforts, a strong voice of leadership and advocacy for the necessary funding at the state and local level to make sure that technical standards along with the necessary staff resources are in place to provide successful AT installation and management.

These efforts contribute significantly to both the environmental and public health goals of CEHA in ensuring safe and reliable subsurface sewage systems for the many residents of Connecticut that are not connected to public sewers. In appreciation of her efforts, CEHA will present her with the 2007 Robert C. Periello Award at the November Annual Meeting.
