Temporary
Pistol Permit Applications

Fully complete the application.

Applicants
must be at least 21 years of age. Positive identification (operator's
license or certified birth certificate) is required at time
of fingerprinting. Provide a copy of both your operator's license
and birth certificate.

It
is preferred, but not required, that you provide three letters
of recommendation. Providing such would assist in verifying
the applicant's suitability to carry a firearm.

Arrangements
may be made through the Resident Trooper's Office (767-1054)
for fingerprinting. Two fingerprint cards (SPBI and FBI) will
be obtained from each applicant.

Completed
notarized applicantions are to be submitted to the Essex Resident
Trooper's Office, and will only be accepted with the following
items:

$19.25 cashier's check or money order made payable to "Commissioner
of Public Safety".

$70.00 cashier's check or money order made payable to "Town
of Essex".

$50.00 cashier's check or money order made payable to "Department
of Public Safety".

The applicant must furnish a letter or certificate attesting
to the successful completion of a course regarding the safety
and use of pistols and revolvers, signed by a certified
instructor.

Processing
will take approximately six to eight weeks. Applicant will be
contacted by the First Selectman's Office.
NOTE:
- Temporary
Permits are valid for 60 days and cannot be renewed.
- If the Temporary
Permit expires prior to obtaining a State permit, you must reapply
to the Town for a temporary permit.
- Obtaining
a Temporary Permit is a prerequisite to obtaining a State Permit.
- After obtaining
the Temporary Permit, contact the Special Licensing and Firearms
Unit of the Connecticut State Police (860-685-8290) to learn how
to obtain the State Permit.
